Rotary Pancake Day

Moravia Rotary's Annual Election Day Pancakes was held November 4.  Preliminary indications are that we had a WINNER.  All figures are not yet in;  we do know, however, that we raised $435.00 with our "Pastries for Polio" raffle.  That represents immunizations for 725 children against this crippling disease.

The Breakfast shift saw about 165 diners show up to eat--a better turnout that last year.  Our lunch service was down--only 75 participants.  It was dinner time, however, that saw our biggest turnout.  We served about 225 diners, and it seemed that most showed up at the same time!  At one point, the line to the ticket table was "out the door" of the firehouse.  Problem was we couldn't get enough flapjacks on the grills fast enough and a backlog occurred in the kitchen.  That, of course, led to a wait in the dining room.  Lesson learned: perhaps we need to have a third (emergency) grill in place for just such a situation in the future.  One thing we will not do is compromise the freshness of our meals; we will not pre-cook pancakes and eggs and have them sitting on a warming tray.  Fresh is better!

So, we have banked more than $3000 from this event.  We still have bills to pay, but we expect to net over $2000, a VERY GOOD YEAR!
